Women Are As Strong As Rocks
This year’s theme is represented by this drawing, ‘Women Are Strong as Rocks’, drawn by Kawsar Rahimi.
An Afghan artist who is also a newcomer to Canada, Kawsar pays tribute to Afghan, Ukrainian and other women fighting for their rights and meanwhile protecting their children and families.

Thank you to each of our speakers for the work they are doing to ‘shine a light’ on women and girls’ rights to self determination, for keeping ‘eyes on Afghanistan’, and for sharing how they are working to advance equality and participation. Afghan newcomer to Canada, Marzia Naderi shares that, “I made this video so that people know that Afghan girls and women are capable of doing anything in any where if given the opportunity.”
Although I found a good job in here, I miss everything about Afghanistan. Though life in Afghanistan was challenging, I loved contributing back in the development of the country. Everyone was happy and we were all together and now I miss my family who are now parted in some parts of world with no certain future and don’t know we will meet again or not. "
"“Madar, what does ‘emigrating’ mean?” Still searching the horizon, Madar said, “It means becoming a stranger in a foreign country. . . . It means dying alone.”
We cannot lose hope. Even in these darkest of times.
"I believe you are that voice to right the wrongs. So don't be discouraged. Raise your voice."
